MOTIVATION

Neighborhood Hopes Boxing Gym is dedicated to providing youth of the community an organization which instills sportsmanship, fair play, physical conditioning, and mental, spiritual and emotional health. Boxers develop self confidence and self esteem while learning pugilistic skills and self defense. The importance of education is stressed. Many of our participants are considered at-risk youth.

The values that will underpin all the Club’s activities are:
• To be welcoming to all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
• To provide an atmosphere of positive encouragement to all those wanting to participate in sport.
• To have a progressive and contemporary approach to promoting the sport and the Club.
• Financial propriety.
• Safety consciousness & accountably protective towards children and youth.
• Continuous improvement of the Club and its facilities.
• Transparency in communication and administering of the Club

Boxing will teach you to rely on yourself, to value the input of others, and most importantly to respect both your skills and those of others. You develop a level of self-confidence that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

 

Once the athlete is involved, the effect of a structured, organized program is almost immediate. All of a sudden, the youngster has a positive release of energy and frustration. The knowledge that the gym is a "safe haven" from the street can also serve as a very comforting thing.
Boxing has numerous health benefits such as weight loss, better dexterity, cardiovascular exercise that works the heart, lungs and the main muscle groups. It improves speed agility, co-ordination and muscle strength

 

The impact of a properly run boxing program is not limited to any one group. We have a tendency to focus on the "at risk" kids because we want to show how boxing can have a positive effect on a problem area. That's not to overlook the fact that all kids need positive influence in their lives. The advantages of being involved in a properly run boxing program apply to all kids and adults, no matter what their background. Interestingly, and again as importantly, member’s academic awareness of the body, functions and dietary needs are also significantly increased as involvement in the sport progresses.
